Madeleine Vella Satariano was born in 1959 and was brought up in Sliema, Malta.
At a very young age Madeleine felt the desire to draw and paint. This desire was instilled in her by her father, Cecil Satariano, also an artist and who acted as her guide and was her source of inspiration.
Madeleine has a romantic and passionate nature. Her art is expressive and showcases her moods and feelings.
Madeleine, who lived most of her youth by the sea, is greatly inspired and moved by the power and might of stormy waves. This can be seen in her many seascapes. Her love for nature is evident. She also loves painting free galloping horses, which give vent to her emotions as she escapes alongside the beautiful beasts.
She skillfully blends scenes of Malta and Gozo, nature and her personal feelings in imaginary compositions expressed on canvas.
She paints in most mediums including Watercolour, Gouache, Ink, Pencil and Acrylic. While Acrylic is her preferred Medium, she chooses the medium that most suits her subject.
Madeleine often drops her brushes and uses her fingers to paint. This allows her to be drawn into a more intimate bond with her painting, giving her more freedom of expression.
Madeleine attended The Malta School of Art where she studied portraiture and still life painting. She also took classes abroad under the tutorship of the well-known American artist Cliff Fleener, who later went on to acquire one of her watercolours painting.
Madeleine has participated in several collective exhibitions in Malta and Abroad. She has so far had two solo exhibitions in Malta and a solo exhibition in London.
Many of Madeleine’s paintings can be found in private collections in Malta and overseas.
Her Biography and an example of her painting is included in “Iconography in Malta” – Encyclopedia of Maltese Painters since 1500 by Guzeppi Theuma.
